Eligibility In The Classroom Analysis

One of the areas that I am having difficulties handling in the classroom is determining when I should be flexible and when I should stand my ground. I have discovered that if I allow students to turn assignments in late, they tend to take advantage of my kindness. Additionally, I have found myself returning incomplete work to students and requesting them to complete it before submitting it back to me. I have not deducted points for their late or incomplete work, which has created an unfair atmosphere for the students that do submit their work on time and in a thorough manner. I have become frustrated with the students who expect to resubmit their subpar work for a better grade. This not only creates more work for me, but sends a message to these students that they do not have to worry about taking their time and getting it right the first time. They assume that I will give them a second chance to improve their grade on any assignment that they fumble through. Several students are absent frequently and have developed a routine of asking for extensions for work that they had prior to being absent. Because the class has twenty-six students, I find myself overwhelmed at times and …show more content…
Unfortunately, I have allowed too many students to routinely submit their assignments late or fix incomplete work. I need to determine when it is acceptable for me to allow students to resubmit work and when it is best to give them a lower grade without the opportunity to improve it. During the last two weeks of my internship with my high school students, I warned them that they are not going to be able to assume that it will be okay to turn things in late without a severe penalty. It was difficult for me to realize that a few of the students do not have the work ethic or desire to turn assignments in on time, which will adversely affect their

In his article for “The Atlantic Monthly”, Jonathan Rauch asserts that homework would have a significant impact on the quality of graduating students. His position of increasing homework and the amount of time spent studying outside of the classroom is well supported by both school administrators and an educational psychologist. Jonathan Rauch also points out that schools can make adjustments to their programs of instruction, but cannot do so without protest from either parents or the students. He shows that the children in the United States are lazy and parents could do more for them instead of relying on the school. Parents complain about how the schools instruct and when they try to change.…

No other attempts of tutoring is given after that. This results in children getting left behind in classes and sometimes even have to repeat grades. When taught an assignment or project students are not told the purpose of them or how it contributes to the lesson they are learning. Most of the time children don’t know what is going on until they see the end results. When kids offer ideas to get the assignment easily done the results are getting yelled at by teachers as punishment for not following their procedures.…

This forces the students to have to cram to get all the coursework done. Though it seems like a lot of work, if students spread the work out throughout the week, it won’t seem to be that much. However, four hours is still a lot of work to complete and time to set aside for it. Mrs. Fox’s class is hard for a number of…

Like many students, college students always want the easiest way to attain a good grade. That was what I experienced in high school. Teachers give credit for work completed rather than the accuracy of the work and students would receive credit for things that had nothing to do with materials being taught in class. For example, my teacher would give extra credit on essays for bringing tissue boxes to class. In high school, students get used to slacking off and procrastinating however teachers seemed like they did not care to help discourage these bad habits.…

I always have followed the saying “if you work hard in life now you will not have to work as hard later.” This saying applies not only to how I work during school now, but how I participate in activities outside of school. To excel in what you want to achieve in life, I believe you need to put in the best effort and try your best in whatever you do. Living by this idea has helped me become a leader in the things I do. It has helped me put others at the same standard as myself and it helps me show my character.…

“The nation is clearly no longer content with mediocrity with just getting by. It is demanding excellent education for all” “It implies an end to the double standard and education in education, a double standard that gives high quality teaching to students and exclusive suburbs and inferior schooling to children in slums, they give preference to some states over others” You would think that this quote by Francis Keppel, in 1965, then the Commissioner of Education, who was the driving force behind the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 could have been quoted by Precedent. George W. Bush as he was implementing No Child Left Behind act of 2002. So what does the Elementary and Secondary Act of 1965 have to do with the No Child…

My Declaration of Independence I am here today to announce my frustration with the amount of homework given on any day. The problem with all of the homework is that some people have other things to do, and may not have time to complete all of the given homework. I think it’s safe to say that the amount of homework is just a bit too much, and not completing all of it seriously can bring down some grades for people. People do not deserve to have homework in every class, almost every day.…

The leading stereotype of high school dropouts is that they are either pregnant, or dumb, but that is not always the case. Students often drop out of high school because they don't feel competent, or the have to work to support their families. Many students feel as if they don't have the ability to pass their classes. My school principal, Dr. Weatherly, always says “Say you can, or say you can’t, you will always be correct , so when a student doesn’t think she/he can pass, she/he doesn’t try, which ultimately leads to failure.…

In the beginning of high school, I couldn’t understand the importance of handling my responsibilities, especially when it came to my school work. I just couldn’t find the motivation to hand in stuff like homework on time. I actually started to do less and less each school year. I never try to fix my problem because there were never any consequences to it. I would pass all my classes with decent grades with no problems despite ignoring a lot of the work, but then I was called by my English teacher to stay after class.…
