The political tradition I mostly agree with is liberalism as liberalism aims at providing equality and improving human conditions connected to possessions and freedom of thought. Liberals also emphasize that government should solve problems and see that no one lacks anything. I agree with liberalistic stand on several issues like dealing with racism affirmative actions, death penalty, education, gun control etc. The most important elements of liberalism are the importance it gives to an individual and self-determination. The article by George Maclean and Duncan R. Wood talks about two different strands of liberalism. They are classical liberalism and reform liberalism. Reform liberalism has a sense of positivity and analyzes the potential of government actions. When comparing liberalism to conservatism, conservatism assumes society is not racist on the whole and therefore does not support affirmative action, but I feel people are not provided with similar opportunities and thus racism is prevalent. According to a Whitehouse report that I read a few years ago, minorities never climb up the socio - economic ladder due to unequal education opportunities as they cannot afford it. Women in those days had to demand for rights which are now taken for granted. Example, earlier women were not allowed to vote. However, as the society is progressing towards equality feminism still goes to extreme with special privileges been given to women. For example, legal protection against violence exists for women. Feminism in a way talks about equality but places more emphasis on one gender more than the other which takes the equality
