Perception is “the process by which individuals organize and interpret their impressions to give meaning to their environment.”, it is not necessarily a reflection of the objective reality of the situation (Langton, Robbins, & Judge, 2016, p. 38). There are three factors that contribute to perception, the individual or perceiver, the target or what they are perceiving and the attributes that are associated with the target, and the context or situation that the event occurs in (Langton, Robbins, & Judge, 2016, p. 38-39).
Over the last 5 years, Electronics Shack has experienced substantial management and process changes or disruptions, as a result of repeated changes in leadership. Management and employees alike have developed different opinions, based on their perception, of what has happened within the company and what needs to happen now to get the company back on track. Columbo should give consideration to whether her desire to implement the ROWE program at Electronics Shack is based on how she believes it will work, her experience at her previous employer, or her experience with Electronics Shack in particular, with regard to its own particular set of issues and challenges. As Columbo believed ROWE was a good idea at her previous workplace, and is something she would be interested in, she may believe that everyone agrees with her assessment without taking proper care to determine specifically what might work for the company given that they already have some form of flextime within the company. This could potentially be a case of her projecting her personal desires or feelings onto others within the Electronics Shack
