We would be taking away the artist’s passion for music, way of voicing their opinions, and notifying the public of things happening in the world. Since the twenty first century, rap music has become exceptionally popular. In the late 1990s controversy of explicit music causing violence became more prevalent and later started appearing in court cases. In a 2005 shooting rap lyrics were brought up in a case stating that explicit lyrics were the cause of the crime. The court ruled that the lyrics should not have even been a part of the evidence because it was insignificant (Nielson). It is a fact that rap music tends to exercise the use of explicit language, inappropriate language, and violent language, but it allows for expressing one’s feelings, discussing things that occur in the world, and providing relatable lyrics for many. Explicit music should not be banned or prohibited because it does not affect society in a bad way. Vulgar music should not be banned because people have the option to listen to it or not and there is a warning in place for when a song is explicit.
