Do you know what times discrimination happened throughout the world? During the 1800-1900’s, discrimination was a major problem in our history. Many people were affected by this. These people had to deal with mental, emotional, and legal troubles. There are many different types of discriminating, such as racial, religious, sex, age, etc. All of these types of segregation will have negative impacts that will hurt the victims. Some people may think that discrimination is justifiable if there is a legitimate aim or proportionate means. This migration had made it easier for African Americans to get jobs, housing ,start a family or just start a new life. Great Migration notes “ In the decade between 1910-1920, black population in northern cities grew by large percentages. New york went up 66 percent, Chicago went up 148 percent. Philadelphia went up 500 percent, and finally the city that grew the most with 611 percent was Detroit.” This was good for the blacks, but for everyone already living in these cities, there were fewer jobs and fewer places to live. While they were moving to these big cities, they were not being discriminated as of yet. According to the Great Migration, and a result of housing tensions “ many blacks ended up creating their own cities within larger cities, such as harlem.” Harlem had used to be an all white neighborhood that by the 1920’s had housed nearly 200,000 African Americans. The black and white relations during this period were not the best. Many riots had happened, but the worst one was in Chicago, in july of 1919. Many people have passed away, killed a loved one, or even been incarcerated due to this. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism “each year approximately 5,000 people under the age of 21 die as a result of underage drinking”. Just because there are laws trying to prevent underage drinking, doesn 't stop teens that are depressed find a way to solve their problems. 5,000 people may not seem like that many, but that’s 5,000 adolescents that are taken away from their families. Why add to this number or kids by discriminating against someone and making them feel like an outcast? On a greater scale, 90 percent of americans with a substance abuse problem started smoking, drinking, or use other drugs before the age of 18. So the person that got discriminated, went to drugs or alcohol at a young age, then ended up with an addiction for the rest of their lives. The NIAAA writes “the estimated cost of drug abuse exceeds 90 billion”, meaning that is 90 billion dollars that could be used for scientific research but instead is helping the people of discrimination with drug addictions. Drugs and alcohol both are proven not good for you and could possibly lead to death. Why would you discriminate against someone if there is a possibility they could end up
