This semester we read the book “Effective executive”. In this book, Drucker focused on how a manager can be effective. This book introduces the director who is responsible for the organization and can influence the outcome of the organization is the effective executive. And executive should be productive and effective. Effective can be learned. The author Peter F. Drucker, who was born in Austria. He focused on writing about management, and he was hailed as the "father of modern management". He had written more than 35 books in his life, and his thoughts have had a great impact on shaping modern companies. In 2002, he received the presidential medal of freedom. The second is to do systematic time management. The author Peter F. Drucker gave readers some examples to illustrate that it is not effective to be bold in reducing unnecessary work. There are four Time wasting factors for poor management or institutional deficiencies. The first one that the director lacking in system or vision. Secondly, too many staffs. Third, the organization is not sound. Fourth, information function is not sound.
To identify the importance of work, to understand and know your time, to be effective. Effective executive will be able to focus on the piecemeal time that the director will be able to control, and keep making time records, analyzing them regularly, and setting deadlines. Knowing your time is the path to contribution and effectiveness.
The fifth chapter informs first things first, which means people should map what they want to do in order and decide which thing is the first thing he or she wants to do. This is because there are always more important contributions to be made than there is time available to make them. They also know that time is the most precious resource and use it very carefully. Third, they know that the contribution is to create new ideas and visions, the principle is what can they contribute and how can they motivate others to make their own contribution to achieve overall goals. Their goal is to improve overall performance. Fourth, when they are choosing a senior manager, they focus on outstanding performance and integrity. They are acutely aware of the task of selecting a talent for a key position. Effective executives know that no one can never be fault-free. They know no one is perfect, even the most capable people have weaknesses. They care about what a person can do, not what he or she can't do. They are committed to focusing on the knowledge and skills of the people to achieve the goals of the organization. Fifth, they know the importance of increased communication.
