Roosevelt, with promises of economic change and success, was sworn in (Modern American Poetry). He came in and offered a fix for the depression; he called it the,” New Deal”. He rapidly turned the American economy around and focused more on unemployment programs instead of putting everyone on welfare (Modern American Poetry). Some of his policies had a large impact on the country’s agriculture, such as increasing the farm output by fifty percent, but in spite of this, the Dust Bowl occurred from the overplanting of the Great Plains, turning much of the Midwest into dust and so, output dropped even more than before (Modern American Poetry). Even though some of these policies had a positive impact, Georgia’s newly elected Governor, Eugene Talmadge, denied it and his reasons for doing so was that he believed it was based on communist ideas (Zainaldin).
