Combustion Engine Vs Eco-Friendly Engine

Combustion Engine Versus Eco-Friendly Engine As the population becomes dependent on the environment, environmentally friendly vehicles have appeared as an alternative to gas-powered vehicles. Many methods exist to power SUV’s, trucks, and cars. Vehicles are powered by the combustion of both gasoline and diesel fuel. The transportation industry is drastically trying to improve its methods for reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants to the environment. Electric cars notably are better for the environment as they reduce greenhouse emissions and pollutants to the atmosphere. Choosing which powered engine is the right choice depends on many factors like the cost of vehicles, time efficiency, fuel economy, and gas versus electricity. In the automotive industry, electric vehicles aren’t ready to replace gasoline-powered vehicles. The cost of both types of vehicles determines the sale of the vehicles. “The average class family is unable to afford a $38,000 Chevy Volt or $35,000 Nissan Leaf, even after government incentives” the middle class is not going to spend $35,000-$38,00 on an electric car that supposedly not only helps reduce the pollutants caused by gas-powered vehicles but also helps the buyer save money over time “when a comparable Cruze or Sentra costs half the amount of money” (Technology editor Perlow). Both vehicles include incentives that persuade the buyer to purchase either car. Electric vehicles will offer incentives through the government, which in fact is pushing for eco-friendly vehicles on highways. As a matter of fact, time efficiency is what helps consumers differentiate the class of automobiles. Consumers already understand, with the rise of miles due to the electrically powered motor, there comes a drawback. That drawback is the time it takes to charge the electric battery that powers the eco-friendly motor. The battery could take up to hours only to give in return a quarter to half of what a gas-powered engine could produce with a full tank. That doesn’t include that pumping gas is by far the fastest and easiest method for a driver to head back on the road. Even though the government is pushing eco-friendly vehicles, they understand that electric vehicles aren’t for all drivers. Let alone, fuel economy is what triggers people to purchase a vehicle other than price. Electric powered vehicles are an issue with driving range, giving an average range of 50-150 miles per charge. “The Volt (if you treat it strictly as an EV) and the Leaf essentially are only good for local driving” (Technology editor Perlow). The Volt is both electric and gas-powered, leaving consumers skeptical about going eco-friendly. On the other hand gas powered vehicles give up to 300 plus miles between refueling. The federal government’s fuel-economy program sets “ CAFE, (corporate average fuel economy), currently set at 27.5 mpg for cars and between 20.7-22.2 mpg for light trucks …show more content…
“ There could be an argument that charging these vehicles with electricity from your home is cheaper than filling the tank” in such case people once believed charging at home will increase the electricity bill resulting in no difference “, but how long is that going to take to make up twice the cost of a comparable gasoline vehicle?” (Technology editor Perlow). Rather than people taking the time and calculating the money saved per recharging rather than refueling, they purchase a gas-powered vehicle, which results in less hassle over

Explanation The cost of buying and operating EVs and HEVs can be attributed to two main contributors: the initial cost of purchase and the driving cost. The initial cost is the price of the vehicle which, in case of EVs, depends heavily on the price of batteries (Nykvist and Nilsson). The driving cost is the expenses required to keep the vehicle operational, such as maintenance, fuel, and spare part cost. Because these factors vary depending on the type of vehicle, a comparison that accounts for all of these criteria is needed to show the total life cycle cost (LCC) of each type of transport.…

Instead of using gas to make cars go, we should use something else that acts almost the same as how the gasoline works for the car. Gas prices may seem lower than they have at a different time, but are higher than they were during others. In some smaller cities they have to pay more for gas because there aren’t as many gas stations to choose from.” There’s as much as a 60-cent difference between gas prices in the heart of North Philly and those in the suburbs.”…

And even if there is the use of some of the electric cars that do emit some gas because of the small tank that they have, it doesn’t even compare with the size of those Ram trucks. Another great thing about electric cars is that they can be powered by wind power or solar radiation, this means that you can use your car by absorbing the natural energy that comes from the sun or the wind. People know that electric cars are better for the environment than your typical car that runs on gasoline, but for some reason people are still not buying them as much as they’re buying gas cars. I believe that the reason for that is that all electric cars need to charge, and they all share the same problem at the moment. They all have the inconvenience of having to charge their batteries for long periods of time. Charging the batteries is not the biggest problem, the biggest problem is that the batteries take an extremely long time to charge. I am currently studying to try and become a mechanical engineer, so what intrigues me is finding ways to make things more efficient and productive, in this case with the electric car batteries.…

This leads to hesitations in purchasing an electric cars when consumers already have a lot of trust in internal combustion engined cars. On the other hand, many electric cars have more safety regulations than internal combustion engined cars due to electric cars not having moving parts and not needing to have flammable liquids in the car. Without consumer trust in electric cars safety, consumers will most likely not want to purchase them. Tesla, a car company based in Palo Alto, wants to change this with their electric cars that are rated some of the safest cars in the United States. It was in the 70’s when fuel costs were so high that individuals have actually considered electric vehicles as another option. The major reasons the community perceives electric vehicles to be unreasonable are for the reason that there are limited versatility and high cost. In the near beginning building stages of electric vehicles were extremely unreasonable, pricey and so basic that when an individual talks about an electric vehicle a picture of a golf-cart like car is what can be pictured. Sadly, the poor advertising makes individuals want to judge electric vehicles even without noticing how they have enhanced over the few couple of years.
