One, liquid nicotine can not only be smoked. It can be ingested, and if splashed, or spilt on a child, it can be absorbed through their skin. Two, the smell makes the child want to taste it. Not only the smell, but the packaging is enticing to the child to explore what is inside. This however, can result in nicotine poisoning. Three, the small parts need to be kept out of reach of the young child, if not the child could possible swallow it, could occlude their airway, or result in death. Lastly, parents or others, need to keep the e-cigarettes up high and out of reach of the young child, especially while the device is charging. The units do get hot, and have been known to explode. This will prevent burns, and again possible death.
Regarding our teens, they need to be educated as to the possible hazards to them, such as nicotine addiction, and other substance abuse. There is more to the e-cigarettes than making a fashion statement. Although, there is not a lot of research clearly stating the true health hazards to the smoker, and the bystanders, exposure to nicotine is the same with an e-cigarette, or a traditional cigarette. More thorough research is needed, and quickly, to make the public more aware of the potential health hazards. Especially since the e-cigarette is doubling in sales yearly, and so are health related
