Dropout rates have increasingly become a problem for Detroit public schools. Implementing programs to ensure kids stay in school and on track to graduation needs to become a top priority. These kids are the future and it is a necessity that these public schools find an effective system to reduce the drop out rate significantly.
Kids who are likely not to graduate from high school can show signs as early as in 6th grade. According to the CEP 60% of the students who will not graduate from high school can be identified in 6th grade using four “warning flags” that reflect poor attendance, misbehavior, and course failures.
