We have discussed the importance of the Environmental Protection Agency and the different standards they set in order to preserve the environment. It specifically mentions the regulations the EPA have established, in order to force power plants to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emissions. We also have talked in depth about the effects of fossil fuels. By Pruitt being a supporter of the fossil fuel industry presents many threats to the environment. With, Pruitt being appoint head of the EPA, he has the potential of lowering the standards regarding the use of fossil fuels. We learned that fossil fuels emit many greenhouse gases into our atmosphere. Greenhouse gases causes the greenhouse effect which leads to global warming, but it also can cause health issues among people. Also, if Pruitt lower the EPA standards more fossil fuels will be extracted. In class we learned that the extraction of fossil fuels leads to the destruction of environmental habitats. The extraction of fossil fuels can also be costly and have a negative impact on the economy. In class during chapter six air pollution lesson, we learned about the Clean Air Act of 1970. This act worked to establish funding to study and clean up pollution as well as established the EPA and was talked about in the article. The recent election opened my eyes to a lot of issues that I wasn’t aware of as a new voter. I think it is important to know who will be controlling what parts of this country and how it affects everyone as a whole. New York Times is known for being a credible new sources. Also, as mentioned in the critical evaluation section, there were a number of embedded links that allowed you to fact check the information being given.
