Bacteria are tiny microorganisms that colonise together and are found in every living organism. Bacteria is a type of Prokaryotes and RESEARCH Some Bacteria can be extremely harmful to many animals bodies including humans, these germs attack the immune systems and cause sickness and diseases, these illnesses occasionally result in death. Although not all bacteria are bad, in fact some forms of bacteria assist in making vital vitamins as well as breaking down waste. Bacteria are capable of thriving in a range of temperatures from about four degrees up to 60 degrees Celsius. Bacteria growth can be inhibited in temperatures below freezing point but the bacteria growth rate will increase once temperatures rise above freezing point. Bacteria can be destroyed by being exposed to boiling temperatures for a long period of time. There are four conditions that make up an ideal growing environment for bacteria these include; temperature, pH, Oxygen and moisture (Noelle Thompson, 2015). Optimal conditions for bacteria growth comprise of a moisture area with an adequate amount of oxygen, warm temperatures near human body temperature, and an environment with a neutral pH. Bacteria can be identified into two types of bacteria; gram negative or gram positive, by using a staining method that works by dying the bacteria either red or violet, when it comes in contact with the crystal violet stain (Nikhilesh Jasuja, 2014). The bacteria stained red is identified as gram negative bacteria because it has a thin cell wall. Gram …show more content…
Hypothesis:
That Domestos is more effective in killing both the Escherichia coli and M bacteria than Dettol Pine o Clean and White Vinegar. Pine O Clean is more effective on gram-positive bacteria than gram negative bacteria, whereas Domestos has the ability to effectively destroy both gram negative and positive bacteria.
Safety precautions:
This experiment uses Pine O Clean Dettol, the person conducting this experiment should be cautious not to let the disinfectant come in contact with skin or eyes. This can be avoided by wearing the appropriate safety equipment including a lab coat, plastic gloves, face masks and safety glasses, as well as being precautious not to swallow the product. When handling Domestos toilet cleaner safety precautions, such as avoiding; inhalation, ingestion, skin and eye contact, should be taken. To prevent possible injuries from the product wear protective clothing, gloves, eye/face protection, the work space should provide an emergency shower and eye wash facilities in case of contact with either the eyes or skin. At the conclusion of the experiment the person dealing with Domestos should wash their hands thoroughly to avoid burns and severe injury to the eyes. Although White Vinegar is natural, it must never be inhaled, ingested or contact eyes or skin, this exposure could possibly aggravate the respiratory tract and cause eye irritation. Eye glasses should be worn at all times. Switch the flame on the Bunsen burner to the safety flame when it is not being used, to insure everyone is capable of seeing the flame to avoid any possibility of getting
