In the movie, Mr. Holland's Opus Mr. Holland comes to a new public school to start his new teaching job. He starts to become attached to the band and they as a group go through a lot together. When Mr. Holland's retired his old school is going to cut the arts program and Mr. Holland is going to plead to the board on why the school should keep the arts because “ The kids need the art to express themselves”. and kids need the arts to have fun. Schools should keep the arts because it gives a pressure free zone where kids can express himself or herself musically and emotionally as well. Schools everywhere are constantly cutting arts because they useless and take too much money to run but actually the arts are very important to some kids because it help kids find a place and have fun. In another tv show called Glee the glee club who recently lost nationals is now being shut down due to low funding and tax. In order to keep the glee club, they needed a national win to keep funding. After there lost in nationals the glee club teacher Mr. Schuester goes to the principal to try to convince her to get funding “ The glee club is over! The kids need this! This club has brought these kids together to create something great” and that's why the arts need to stay. This is another example of a school losing funding for the arts. In the movie Pay, It Forward Mr. Simonet is teaching his class and decides to give his class an all year assignment. This was not an ordinary assignment, the assignment was how can one change the world? How can one change it in a positive way? When he first assigns this the kids start to moan and groan and wonder what's the point of this? All Mr. Simonet says is “ Change the world”. Mr. Simonet is trying to tell the kids is that one should not worry about education as much as one should worry about how they will make a difference. See schools today are too worried about common core and all that stuff but schools should start teaching kids how will they follow their desire and how they will contribute to the world. If no schools are teaching kids this then how will we evolve to become even greater?
