A dog park is a fenced-off land that often times is next to a park, a place where dogs can run without a leash. Dog parks have become very popular throughout urban areas for the limited amount of space. In the City of El Paso there are currently three dog parks located at: West side Don Haskins Community Center, Album Park and near Esperanza Moreno Park. The goal of this paper is to approve a new dog park in the City of El Paso.

Benefits of a dog park in the community
When people go out for a run or take their children to play in the park they socialize with other members of the community. Along with this, they help promote a healthy lifestyle by breathing fresh air, exercising and socializing. Many dog owners don’t enjoy many of these privileges because of people stepping aside when they see a dog. Most often dogs are not allowed without a leash in public spaces, even when they have proper training to be off a leash. Laws and regulations on animals and their restraint has made it hard for dog owners to actively involve themselves and their dogs in the community.

Many people fear that the addition of a dog park will bring new diseases to the community. Some common diseases that cause concern among dog owners are parvovirus, rabies, ringworm, along with parasites like ticks and fleas. It is a popular belief that all dogs are carriers of these diseases. Not all dogs carry diseases, for they are vaccinated as early as 8 weeks of age against them. In addition to this, it is the law in El Paso for a dog to be vaccinated and have a microchip. If a dog is adequately vaccinated and treated properly, the spread of these disease is minimum. Most of the diseases that these animals can carry cannot be spread from animal to human, and are mostly ineffective with vaccinated
