Does Abortion Matter

“The greatest destroyer of peace is abortion because if a mother can kill her own child, what is left for me to kill you and you kill me? There is nothing between.” (Mother Teresa). Abortion should matter because it’s taking a life away that didn’t get to see or do anything. Would you like it if that happened to you? Probably not. Just because you get pregnant, you shouldn’t take away the life of that child. Just because you fell pregnant, it doesn’t mean that the child shouldn’t have a chance. There is other choices instead of having an abortion. Such as putting the child up for adoption, there are people who try and have a child, but their body can’t. On one side of abortion, people are pro choice and they believe that abortions should be …show more content…
Critics say “That it has no harm to the mother”. However, it is all a lie. According to Erik Eckholm, “women who have had an induced abortion have the same risk of breast cancer as other women," (Eckholm, p. A.1). Basically Erik is saying that having an induced abortion, can lead to the same injuries as a normal person. Eckholm also stated, “Abortion has risks of premature births, depression, and breast, cervical and ovarian cancer.” (Eckholm, p. A.1). This means that having an abortion can cause a bunch of health problems and some of them can be deadly. Ann M. Simmons stated, “Abortion should only be necessary to save a woman's life. Saving a woman's life as well as protecting her physical health.” (Simmons, p. A.3). This proves that it shouldn’t be allowed at all because it can cause physical health problems and some are deadly. In summary, it is apparent that abortion should not be allowed because of how it can harm the mother …show more content…
Critics often argue that women have the same amount of psychological damage after birth as having an abortion. However, it is shown that more women have more psychological damage after having an abortion because of all the things that go through your mind after taking someone's life. According to a U.S. Government Reporter, “The suicide rate in the year after an abortion goes up by seven times." This means, the more abortions that happen, the more people are gonna get depressed and commit suicide. The U.S. Government Reporter also stated, “Post-abortion stress is suffered by women having abortions it is much like that seen in soldiers returning from Vietnam and is something that anyone who's had an abortion is sure to suffer from." This means that after you have an abortion, that you can have suffer from brain damage. Some things abortion can cause are, guilt, sexual problems, suicidal ideas, drug use, eating disorders, and a downward spiral where they lose friends and family members. This mean that having an abortion, can make you have a lot of bad things happen to you. In summary, it is apparent that abortion should not be allowed because of how it can harm the mother

It’s a hard choice, and that’s why I’m pro-choice, because I want people to make their own choices” (Clinton). These days, the word “abortion” stirs up so much controversy. It seems like everyone knows exactly where they stand in the matter: they’re either strongly pro-choice, or strongly pro-life. Whether they are influenced by religion, personal matters, or family morals, many struggle to see that there are two sides to abortion. Pro Choice vs. Pro Life There are many reasons on both sides of this issue of why people believe it is or is not okay to have an abortion. Many believe that it is a woman’s right to choose to end her pregnancy or not. The U.S. Supreme Court has declared that it is a right guaranteed by the Constitution. Many would also believe that in choosing to end her pregnancy, she is committing murder, and that although the child is unborn, it is still a living being with the same right to live as its mother. Pro Choice gives women the right to decide if having a child is right for her, and that choice does not end the moment she becomes pregnant.…

Abortion can be a touchy subject that people argue the fact over if it's right and legal or wrong and should be illegal. Some people feel that abortion is not murder, but there are studies shown that abortion is murder. Although it is the mother’s choice on whether she wants to keep the baby or not, she should think clearly about all of her options. Not only does she need to think about all of her options, but she should realize that this was her actions which had nothing to do with the unborn baby.…

“I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child, a direct killing of the innocent child, murder by the mother herself.” - Mother Teresa. In my opinion under rare circumstances abortion should be illegal because it murders an innocent human. People should not engage intercourse if they are not responsible to wear protection, if they are not responsible enough for that , they are not responsible enough to have a baby or even engage in intercourse yet. The girl and boy are the one that had taken the risk of having a baby and they didn’t use protection so it should now be their responsibility to have the baby and decide whether or not to put it up for adoption.…

The next main argument of pro-life is the argument of significant health risks of abortion to both the mother and the fetus. Starting with claims that a fetus can feel pain during an abortion, Dr. Maureen Condic, Associate Professor of Neurobiology and Anatomy said, “ there is a universal agreement that pain is detected by the fetus during the first trimester” (ProCon). Dr. Bernard N. Nathanson M.D, also later said, “We see (in ultrasound image) the child’s mouth open in a silent scream… This is the silent scream of a child threatened imminently with extinction” (ProCon). This would coincide with the methods used in abortion one, the drug use which is known as the “morning-after pill” which can be used in a higher dosage within the first fifty weeks of pregnancy (Porter and O’Connor).…

Making abortions illegal ensures that a child has a fair chance to a life they could lead. Not only do pro-life advocates have concern for the life of an unborn child, but they also have concern for women’s mental and physical health risks after having abortions. Women who have abortions are at risk for various mental health disorders such as PTSD, anxiety, anger and resentment, guilt, depression, substance abuse, and suicide. Dr. Coleman notes that, “…the literature on the psychological effects of abortion conducted over the last several decades indicates that a minimum of 10-20% of women experience adverse, prolonged, post-abortion reactions. This translates into at least 130,000 to 260,000 new cases of serious mental health problems each year in the U.S” (Report of The South Dakota Task Force to Study Abortion).…

Once a woman is pregnant, she should not abort a child at all because it is a blessing from god and there are hundreds of thousands of couples who cannot have children due to medical and physical conditions. Moreover, in the article, it is stated that “abortion causes psychological damage and young adult women who undergo abortion may be at increased risk for subsequent depression (par.12).” This is another solid reason that abortion should not be permitted because it can cause a life-long depression. A lot of researches and studies have shown that once a woman aborts a child, she feels the remorse for her entire life and always fears that she might not be able to have a child ever again. I have seen a lot of young girls who have done abortions and now they are regretting their decisions.…
