Personal Narrative: My Trip To Disneyland In Anaheim, California

Superior Essays
For this paper I went to Disneyland in Anaheim, California. I went to the park with my dad on November 9th. We came straight from the airport and arrived at around 10am. The entrance to the park was relatively empty, this was probably due to the fact that the front is really large and it only gets noticeably crowded during the morning while guests are waiting for the park to open. Despite being pretty empty at the entrance, there was a line to get through security. I remember being surprised to see that there were so many teens and children at the park at that time especially considering it was a school day.

When we entered we started out in Main Street USA, a land meant to capture the feeling of an old American town. I noticed that the

By this time it was around 11:30 and I noticed there were more people in the park than there had been when we arrived. We walked around Fantasyland for a while before deciding to go to the storybook boats. While in line for this ride I decided to interview Jessica and Olivia, the two people in line in front of us. I asked Jessica why she came to Disneyland and she said that she was in California for a work trip and that she thought it was the perfect opportunity to take her kids to the park since they love the characters so much. I then asked her what her favorite experience since arriving at the park was, since it was early in the day she hadn't done that much yet, but she did say that she, as well as her whole family really enjoyed Star Tours. Olivia nodded in agreement upon hearing this. Then I asked her if she believes in happy endings, and she said "I think if you can't believe in happy endings then that's a pretty sad way to live your life." I thought that this was a really fitting answer, especially when considering that the ride we were about to board was all about different disney fairytales and they all have happy endings. After this I asked her what she can experience at Disneyland that she can't in her everyday life. Right away she compared it to the theme parks in Australia (where she's from) and she said that they can't experience "it's kind of the old fairy tale magic. It's not just an adventure park with a couple of roller coasters and things, but there's actually the music that's playing, the characters walking around. It's quite unique to Disneyland" Then for a final question I asked her what magical things she experienced in her everyday life. Jessica had a very easy time answering this question, she explained that she's a orchestra conductor so she gets to travel around a lot and spread joy and music and that to her that feels magical. We then got on the ride which was just a boat ride

Walt Disney had a vision. He imagined an amusement park where children and their parents could enjoy rides and have fun together. But, when he was in an amusement park in the early twentieth century, he noticed that there were only random assortments of roller coasters, and how sanitation wasn't the greatest importance. Walt wanted a place where children and families could have fun together in a clean, orderly and fun way, and at an affordable price. He knew exactly what he wanted, and it would be called Disneyland.…

He quickly came up with the idea of creating an amusement park, which would satisfy both children and adults’ imagination and love of fantasy. This idea was put on hold through the Second World War, but eventually came to life on July 17th 1955, and would be known as Disneyland. This was one of Walt Disney’s most magical and personal projects, but it was conceived during an ambiguous and puzzling time of the American history. While some scholars believe that the amusement park is a place allowing individual choice and personal transformation through one’s imagination, others opted for a more cynical view, seeing a degree of consensual control and surveillance at the heart of its creation. Disneyland was not only an incredible success, but, during a time plagued by the nuclear scare and a communist threat, it became a beacon of hope, fun and adventure for the American…

Adrenaline ran through my veins all day, and Disney references spilling out of my mouth like a broken record in a player. No one else accepted my elation, but I on the other hand, had a countdown down for this jaunt as soon as I heard of it in August. As I sat down on the dirty, sweaty gym floor like the rest of the band, I began to process everything that was happening. In 26 hours, 48 minutes, and 28 seconds, according to my countdown, the entire high school band would be in Orlando, Florida. In four days time, our provincial marching band would be featured marching in a parade in the Magic Kingdom of the happiest place on earth!…
