The men at the farm don’t like the dog any more because it’s useless. “Why'n't you get Candy to shoot his old dog” (Steinbeck 17) This makes Candy believe that his dog is useless. Candy’s dog later gets shot by Carlson. Candy regrets not shooting because he has been with his dog through everything, and he says he should have been there when it died. Candy may be old and useless but, he’s a human being and no one has the right to kill another no matter how old they are. They always think he’s unable to do things because he’s old, even though he can do it, “I lost my hand right here on this ranch. Candy later ask Lennie and George to become apart of there dream, because he has nothing else to do. He brings up, that he has saved a lot of money and can help pay for the land that they want to buy. Finally, the last person that gets discriminated in the novel Of Mice and Men is Lennie. Lennie is discriminated because he has a mental disability, and he is not very intelligent. George told the boss of the ranch that Lennie was a very hard worker and could do anything you told him to do, but was not very intelligent.
