Freak The Mighty Poem Analysis

Improved Essays
I will be discussing the transforming effect that the literature I have read has had on me. I will outline the discrimination in Freak the mighty and The Curious incident of the dog in the night time. Also, in Much Ado about Nothing I will outline the immaturity of Claudio as well as the horrific manner in which Claudio treated Hero throughout the film. Furthermore, I will also outline how the aspect that people should never give up is shown in the short story The Fly. Finally I will discuss the struggle to be independent in The Captive Lion.

In the novels, Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philback and The Curious Incident of the dog in the night time by Mark Haddon, discrimination is a central theme. I did not agree with the manner in which Freak and Max are discriminated against by Tony D as Tony wanted to bully and call them names “ you! The Freak! You and your giant retard.” In so doing he made Freak and Max feel that they are social outcasts and will never get friends. I was not satisfied when Freak or Max did not stand up for themselves because I believe that people who discriminate should be held accountable for there wrong doing.. Moreover, In the Curious incident of the dog in the night time Discrimination was a big Theme I was not satisfied with the manner in which Christopher is discriminated against by society as they mock him by calling him a “ train elf.” I was also not pleased with Mrs Gascoyn for not helping Christopher reach his full potential in his Education but instead of helping she stated that she didn’t want to treat Christopher differently because everyone else would want to be treated differently. In Addition I was not satisfied with Christopher’s father Ed boon doing everything for Christopher by making his meals according to his likes and dislikes as well as overprotecting him against society therefore creating a disadvantage for Christopher to interact with other children from different neighborhoods. Thus the theme of discrimination in The Curious Incident of the dog in the night time and Freak the Mighty had a transformative affect on me. Furthermore , in the film Much Ado about Nothing By Kenneth Branagh , Immaturity and horrifying manners are central themes. I was not pleased with the immaturity of Claudio in which he quickly abandons Hero in two occasions, the first time he abandoned Hero was when Don John told Claudio that Don Pedro wanted to have Hero all to himself. The second time was when Don John told Borachio to have a sexual intercourse with Margaret in front of Hero’s balcony so that it looked like Hero was cheating on Claudio before their weeding the next day. Instead of confronting Hero and asking why She did it he decided to shame her in front of everyone on their wedding day by calling her names, screaming at her as well as pushing her into her father and saying you can have Hero back. Moreover, I was also not satisfied with the immaturity of Don Pedro, Claudio, Leonato, Hero, Margaret and Ursula in which they trick Benedick and Beatrice into thinking they love each other. Leonato, Claudio and Don Pedro where the first to trick Benedick, Leonato, Claudio and Don Pedro where in the garden saying that Hero told Claudio that Beatrice was actually in love with Benedick. The same happened when Margaret lured Beatrice into coming to the garden to come talk when Margaret leaves Beatrice overhears Ursula And Hero talking loud in the garden. Hero tells Ursula that Claudio told her that Benedick is actually in love

I did not agree with the manner in which the lion is getting denied for his independence from society as the society locked the lion in the cage in a limited space and was not able to go out. The lion wanted to go out of the cage and this is evident when the poet mentions when the lion has memories of running and hunting free. I believe that independence should not be taken away from any person or animal because it plays a massive role in that person or animals life. Therefore, the theme of the struggle to become independent in The Captive lion has had a transformative effect on

I agree to a great extent that Ondaatje’s ‘In the Skin of a Lion’ has a continuing appeal because of the unheard voices presented in the novel. Ondaatje allows his audience to have individualised responses to the unheard voices by rejecting the role of a typical omnipresent narrator, who would tell the story from one point of view. By doing this, Ondaatje allows his audience to take control over the way they interpret the text, allowing them to have unique opinions regarding the issues raised throughout the novel. Ondaatje’s purpose was to awaken his responders to the injustices of history. Ondaatje used his authorial intervention to make use of his fragmented plot, shifting perspectives and intertwining stories to challenge his audience…

    The Victims Poem Analysis

Upon initial reading, “The Victims” by Sharon Olds seems to be a poem that paints the picture of a life of abuse; starting from the dawning of the exploitation and arching over into the life of the abused following the maltreatment. In the work, it is made to be believed that the clear victims of the poem are the speaker and their family—which is a rightful and obvious assumption—but there is another victim that is not as prevalent as that of the speaker and their family: the speaker’s father. After a second read, it is made evidently apparent that although the work does focus on the speaker and their family as the victims of the poem, the ideal that the father is also a victim is explored. Since the father is depicted as an abuser, it is seen…

The lion is unable to feel or describe his feelings. After the lion has come to life and saved Sara and her baby brother, he turns into a statue again but only to become a warm and popular statue. " He looks as cold as stone but he feels as warm as toast" (Wild and Voutila, 2014). The reader is able to see the transformation of the lion and this provides personal connections to each individual as each person has grown and transitioned in their own journey (Tunnell, 2008).…

When I first read each of these poem I notice a very interesting difference between the two. While both of the poems are about relationships the major difference between the two are the specific type of relationship they each portray. In Your Hands by Gevorg Emin the relationship Gevorg portrays is a very loving and passionate one between the two people. While in The Clothespin by Rhonda Bower the feeling we get about the relationship is that the two people don’t really love each other and force each other to stay together. The way these two poems contrast each other is also indicative of how many real life relationship between people are.…

Most of today’s society has had an experience like the character in Carolyn Kizer’s poem “Bitch”, by meeting an ex-significant lover/partner when visiting a local place. The awkward first moment while making eye contact with one another just like a past experience, often creates a challenge about the appropriate way to act. Especially, if the past experiences was not pleasant and/or was full of male dominance. Carolyn Kizer shows this in her poem through the theme, which is, you should never chase after something that was never really yours to begin with and is more harmful than rewarding. Beginning with the title, “Bitch”, most readers will associate this word to have two possible meanings.…

“A Certain Lady” is a short poem written by Dorothy Parker detailing a woman’s thoughts on her relationship with a mysterious man. The poem is written as a monologue about the woman’s ability to appear happy around the man and his inability to gauge her true feelings. Despite her affection for him, he constantly tells her stories of his exploits with women. While the topic itself seems simple in nature, the relationship in question, as well as the poem itself, is quite complex. Each stanza adds layers of complexity to the poem.…

Discrimination is defined as, ‘the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex’. Martin Luther King Jr connects it with society, in the case of racism saying, “Discrimination is a hell-hound that gnaws at Negroes in every waking moment of their lives to remind them that the lie of their inferiority is accepted as truth in the society dominating them”. There are many features and types of discrimination. Othering is the process of a person or a group being placed outside of the norm, into the margins. The media, uses science fiction to show minority discrimination, as seen in the film X-Men, and novel the Chrysalids, alike.…
