After very few games of the regular season, you get a season ending injury. Your basketball career is over. What do you resort to if you do not have a lot of education from college? An example of this is stated in “Jabari Parker's Second ACL Tear Shakes Young Bucks To The Core” “... his career could be over for the rest of his professional career.” This quote is showing the disadvantages of going to the NBA after one year are endless because if he would’ve stayed for three more years, he would be able to get a good job so he can continue to make money and be successful, but he did not do that. It is sad and depressing to look at because he was a great player, but he did not take his time on developing and thinking about his future for him, and his family as well. I get a pit in my stomach every time the topic of Jabari Parker’s second ACL tear pops up. Parker now has nothing to fall back on because as it states in “Nearly 64 percent of jobs don’t require college education, but wait - there’s more” by Ben Parker, “On average, Pew finds, college grads earn $17,500 more than high school grads and “The pay gap was significantly smaller in previous generations.” This quote is showing that if you don’t have college education, then you will be making a significantly lower amount of money compared to college grads. All it takes is going to college for four years, and not every college athlete is doing that, and that is a huge risk for their future lives. In 2006, a one and done player out of Memphis college got drafted 17th pick in the NBA draft with the name of Shawne Williams. Williams ended up starting only seventeen times in his whole NBA career (10 years) while other first round picks have started as many as 700 games within a span of only nine years. This is only showing that being a one and done player can ruin your life in a blink of an eye, and what do you think Shawne Williams is doing right now? He is most likely sitting home trying to find a job that will support him for his future, since he does not have a degree, it will be very tough to find a
