After the Vietnam war, veterans were not respected and the United States or even the world as a whole should never treat our soldiers especially the ones who fought for us and came back paralyzed, as an amputee or any other life changing injuries like they did during the Vietnam War (“Why Americans”). The Disabled American Veterans has had positive effects on veterans since the 1920’s and is still providing life-long happiness and fulfilling it’s promises to the men and women that served our country by becoming the largest non-profit veteran group whose main focus is to aid and support disabled veterans and veterans families. No veteran should have to return from war struggling financially along with the trauma the war left on them and having to adjust to now being disabled. The DAV provides and ensures disabled veterans with the benefits they deserve and receive through the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). Most of the time, disabled veterans are not aware of the benefits available to them and are usually struggling financially to provide for their family and pay hospital bills. The DAV takes the stress off of the veterans and their families by providing help in receiving benefits in a professional and caring manner. The DAV’s sole purpose is to provide veterans with the respect and nobility they should be granted, while also granting benefits that will help them and their families throughout their whole lives. "Fulfilling our promises to the men and women who served" is the commitment the DAV makes (“DAV”). Veterans do not get the kind of help they should and because of this reason the DAV raises awareness to the public about the needs of disabled veterans. The DAV represents disabled veterans by protesting and fighting for the rights veterans have earned by serving our country and because of their service have became paralyzed, disabled, or severely injured for America and the American citizens. The DAV does not cause disruption in America, but simply urges people to open their eyes and give veterans, especially disabled veterans, more benefits to aid them (“Mission”). Organizations like the DAV should be in place because without the DAV, disabled veterans could be homeless, struggling financially or left alone in the constant battle of receiving their rightful benefits that they earned. There is no better way to honor our disabled veterans other than ensuring they live a life full of respect and honor from their public and receive the benefits they rightly earned by risking their lives (“Why Americans”). Also, the DAV’s disaster relief service aids veterans and their families during times of natural or national disasters. Some main ways DAV aids veterans and their families through these crises are by providing: clothing, shelter, food, relief from injuries and covering all personal items or illnesses not covered by insurance (“Disaster”). Finally, The Homeless Veterans Initiative provides housing and necessary needs to homeless veterans. This service greatly helps homeless veterans become apart of the society that they once risked their lives for (“Homeless”). The DAV cares about veterans and makes sure that their veterans are taken care of by providing services like: free transportation, disaster relief, helps the homeless and mobile services. These services have long-term effects on veterans and their
