PTSD is one of the leading diagnostic that veterans are applying for second to loss of limbs while in combat. Because little things can trigger PTSD most veterans have a hard time adjusting to everyday life. For example, Fourth of the July is hard on veterans because of fireworks and the smell of gun powder. Veterans must undergo psychological exams and along with combat history to increase the service connected. “The military doctors who prepare the case for the Physical Evaluation Boards pick only one condition for the service member 's rating, even though many of the current injuries are much more complex.” (McWhorter,2014)
Movement
The # We Defend Our Soldiers Movement (WDOSM) was established in November 15, 2016, because of the undeserved treatment of veterans returning home from war. One issued is the long wait time for reply approval or denial of benefits. There are large numbers of veterans that are homeless due to the rejection of a service connection issue. Because of the uphill battle to apply for benefits, WDOSM has prided itself on proving assistance to elevate the red tape of applying for benefits.
