The main issue in this case study is Differential Treatment. Robert, who worked a second job as a paraprofessional at the Fairmead Library, felt that his new manager, Regina Price, was treating him differently from the other employees. He felt that he was being singled out and subjected to a “guerrilla warfare” because he was a male. This he further supported from his observations that Ms. Price acted very differently when dealing with male patrons (cold and perfunctory) than with females (welcoming and accommodating). They should also hold training and workshops to let employees know what is gender discrimination and what is not. Gender diversity would also help promote equal treatment among staff. In this case, Robert was “one of the only men working at the library”. This meant that there were other male workers. A gender diverse group would also give the library access to different views, backgrounds, skills and ideas that a mixed workforce can provide. Finally, libraries should promote a culture of inclusion. This would help eliminate feelings of exclusion and differential treatment and instead boost equality among all staff (Jeanetta, …show more content…
