Different Forms Of Sexualizing Rape

While researching rape I noticed that women are statistically more prone to be raped than men and that people find it unusual for men to be raped. Society says that only women can be raped and it affects them more than the “weak” men who are raped. After researching for crediable websites I found on http://www.nsvrc.org/sites/default/files/publications_nsvrc_factsheet_media-packet_statistics-about-sexual-violence_0.pdf only about 1 in 71 men are raped. The only thing that affects my research results are the fact most men do not report being raped due not knowing they were raped or feeling like less then a man. My goal for the paper is to get society to see how sexualizing rape affects people using different forms of

Many people in the media and scientific organizations will look to take blame off of men and place it on biology instead. In Michael Kimmel’s book Guyland, he references writers specifically asserting “Roiphe, Young, and Paglia all argue that boys will be boys, and that to constrain male sexuality is to do a disservice to young men” (Kimmel, CP 377). While biology plays a role in sexuality, attributing rape and other forms of sexual assault to biology is simply taking the blame off of the perpetrators and putting on the victim. Institutions like the media privilege men by taking the blame from them and putting it on some uncontrollable genetic factor. We are taking the focus off of the roots of the issue, and putting our attention on the victim and their role in sexual violence.…

Currently the United States has one of the highest rape rate among countries, every 107 seconds, someone in the United States is sexually assaulted with the number of victims being 293,000 each year (Kahn). With many of the attacks being unreported and unrecognized sexual assault is said to be a silent- violent epidemic. The causes and reasoning behind sexual assault are entrenched into our society. Richardson and Shields make a point saying students are not the victims and “rape culture” but the victims of a damaged institution that contributes to risks of sexual assault ( Richardson and Shields 27). Women are staggeringly more likely to be the victim of sexual assault, while men are almost always are the perpetrators.…

Only about 15% of the rapes occur in an open outdoor space (Planty et al., 2016). Rapes do occur in both of those instances. Another false is that the victim can only happen if the victim is a female. There are many males who are raped, but those cases do not have much attention because society is embarrassed that a male would be raped. This ideology can be attributive to gender theories.…

Effects of False Rape Accusations What’s the truth and what isn’t? That’s a question law enforcement must answer, almost everyday, when dealing with crimes. Sexual assault, in particular, is a subject where the truth could be a he-said-she-said type of situation. Moreover, law enforcement generally has a difficult time apprehending a perpetrator, due to the lack of eyewitness accounts of the crime or lack of evidence.…

Earlier this summer, a poll conducted by the Washington Post and the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation an article written by Anderson Nick a reporter and educational editor found that, “1 in 5 women in college have been victims of rape or sexual assault either complete or attempted.” Over the years, similar studies and reports showed similar statistics, however, the accuracy of these reports were often questioned or not taken seriously at all. The cynicism and misunderstanding of rape and sexual assault often cause many cases to be underreported because victims often fear punishment or social stigma instead of help. Colleges can stop these crimes by working harder to educate students on the link between sexual assault and alcohol, the perpetual abuse cycle that is caused by double standards and gender prejudice, and establishing Sexual Assault Response Teams to prevent…

The idea that a man is raped by another man or a woman is treated as nothing more than a joke within society because of the concept of toxic masculinity and the idea that only women can be raped. Coupled with that is also the idea that a woman cannot commit acts of rape simply because in most states rape is specified as a forcible insertion of a sexual organ. These facts are prevalent because they speak to how the country as a whole treats its citizens based on gender and how modern society believes that one gender is stronger or weaker in nature in comparison to the…

Rape is a silent epidemic amongst many contradicting topics. I say silent because there are a high number of rapes compared to the very low number of reports. Something so obvious can also be oblivious to many especially when an individual isn’t aware that even they can become a victim of sexual assault. It’s so easy to think this way when you or anyone you know hasn’t come face to face with sexual assault. Many of these individuals are college students especially those on or near college campuses that are constantly on the go to attend class, parties, extracurricular activities etc.…
