There are four babies. They are all about three years old and they all go to the same day care center. One baby is an African American boy, the second baby is an Asian girl, the third is Indian boy, and the last baby is Caucasian girl. All of them love to run around and play together like they have been best friends since birth. As you can picture in this scenario, the color of skin and differences in facial features is not an issue when it comes to very young children. Once I started meeting more people that had different races and cultures, I started to embrace my own race. I started to see my self worth and potential. I started to realize that it does not matter if people have different ethnicities because we are all important and human. Having this mind-set reminded me of how color did not matter when we were younger and all these perspectives we have about one another is socially constructed. This was a controversial event because it was a case of a White Police officer killing a young African American man. Of course there are many different stories because some people blame the Police Officer for killing the victim just because he was black. This shows there is still bias and racism in our world. Although there are plenty of opinions on this situation, this is how the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter all started. In “A Herstory of the #BlackLivesMatter Movement” by Alicia Garda, she states in her article “We are grateful to our allies who have stepped up to the call that Black lives matter” (11). Garda explains in her article that people are coming together to fight for equality and justice towards discrimination. She states that she is glad that people are helping out to execute this movement. She even quotes “When Black people get free, everybody gets free” (Garda 15). This shows that although there is till racism in our present day, it reminds us about how we should be united instead of fighting one another. Garda reminds people that without the negative events the positives will not happen. She emphasized that it is not just #BlackLivesMatter but if the Black lives are able to power through this obstacle other races will be able to stand up for themselves as
