On the other hand, evidence-based practice is about utilizing that evidence and applying in clinical decision making(Conner, 2014). This evidence comes from research. The purpose of evidence-based practice is to use the best available evidence when making patient-care decisions. In other words, when we encounter certain situations when providing care to our patients, there will be several different ways of solving the problem; as nurses, we must use to best one to arrive at the best possible outcomes. One important distinction between research and evidence-based practice is that evidence-based practice takes into account the patient 's preferences for interventions(Fitzpatrick, 2016). The PICO method is used in evidence-based practice to help formulate and answer a question. P stands for population or problem; an example of this would be an 84-year-old woman with osteoarthritis of the knee. I stands for intervention; an example of this would be to use COX-2-inhibitor to treat the osteoarthritis. C represents comparison intervention; an example of this would be the use of other NSAIDS in the treatment of osteoarthritis. O stands for outcome; an example of this would be less GI bleeding and control of pain. The question that this helped to formulate is: In an 84-year-old woman with arthritis of the knee, can COX-2 inhibitors use decrease the …show more content…

As a result of that, women who had known allergy to chlorhexidine, alcohol, iodine, or shellfish were excluded from the study. Another way in which human rights were referred to during the study is by doing a follow-up while patients were still in the hospital to see if they developed any
