As our lecture states, “Entrepreneurs perceive an opportunity and create an organization to pursue it.” “Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t, so you can live the rest of your life, like most people can’t.” I like this way of explaining what the difference between an Entrepreneur and Entrepreneurship are. Entrepreneurs need to but a lot of time and energy into their business to keep it afloat.
An article by S. Tobak, really hits hard that unless you have a product or service and have capital and able sell a product or service, then you can be considered an entrepreneur. One has to take a risk, own a business and make money. He relates the millennials to ones that have ideas, and are technologically smart but do not have jobs and do not have the motivation to start a business. They may think of themselves as entrepreneurs because they have an idea and need a reason to explain why they are not working, but that does not make them an entrepreneur (Tobak, 2015). Paula Fernandes writes in her article, that an entrepreneur has to do a number of things to become successful. The first thing is to study others who have tried and failed. This way mistakes can be avoided. Secondly, one has to make sure that this is a business that someone is really willing to get into. If the person is not fully set on loving what they are doing, then they may not put the time and effort into running it. Or, they may give up sooner than they should. Third, an entrepreneur needs to look for problems to solve, and not already having a solution for a problem. Someone needs to research a problem in order to try and find out what could solve it. Fourth, the entrepreneur has to be passionate about …show more content…
Which is very interesting. When you see the examples though, they make sense. Entrepreneurs need to be willing to take risks and do things for themselves. Children, when they are young want to do “it” themselves and want to do things their way (Hicks, 2016). The entrepreneur seems to need to have the same basic mind set of wanting to do it themselves and be in charge.
The general census of being an entrepreneur is having the ability to take a risk. The person would have to have confidence and love what they are providing as a product or service. The person would also have the motivation and be a self-starter. I do not feel that I have that much confidence in my ability to be a self-starter. I am comfortable working for a company and having security in having a job. Having someone else hold me accountable, helps me do what I need to do and get done what needs to be done.
I did the business quiz, “Are you tough enough”, and it told me what I already know ("Quiz: Are You Tough Enough?", 2009). I scored a 66 out of 100. It told me that I am not a natural entrepreneur, but I could become one. I like security and knowing that someone else is having to make the tough decisions and I am not risking my own personal or family’s life. On the flip of that though, I do like to have a say and be heard when there are decisions to be
