To be safe, there must be safe work practices and habits developed. There always needs to be a professional attitude, even when something may be harder than expected and frustrating. After being a diesel mechanic for so long, you begin to learn new skills. Some of these include developing self confidence, thinking analytically, making important decisions, and many others (Quick). Probably one of the most important things a diesel mechanic needs to know is how to put a vehicle on a lift. This is important because one little mistake and the whole vehicle could fall while being lifted in the air. They use these lifts to be able to work underneath the vehicle. Most people learn on the job how things work, but employers are beginning to hire people coming out of trade schools. They are beginning to do this because they don’t have to teach them as much as people learning on the job, and they already know the trade (Summary). Even though some may have gone to a trade school, they will never stop learning as technology advances and diesels become more complex. With technology advancing and more semis going on the road, there are going to be more jobs available. The job outlook for diesel mechanics is expected to grow. As more and more semis are going on the road for transporting goods, they have to be kept up and serviced, giving more and more diesel mechanics jobs. With this job being so open, doing many things and having to have many skills to be capable of doing well, they can go into other careers easily. With this being said, if you get tired of being a diesel mechanic, you can go into other fields already having experience such as welding, collision repair and many others
