My stance is that our society should look for cleaner fuels and ways to reduce our environmental impact, while also being a person that likes to have the power and convenience of a diesel engine. I will counter by showing examples of vehicles that have been running for years on bio-diesel and cooking oil without any negative side effects. This is due to it not being a new idea, it has been around since “Rudolf Diesel first invented the diesel engine, and showed it at the 1900 Paris World's Fair, running on peanut oil” (West, 2004). Additionally, technology has come a long way in changing the properties and viscosity of biodiesel. This reduction in viscosity increases the ability of the engine to use it without any negative side effects (Balat, M., Balat, H., 2008).
