They wanted to be fair and stop any conflict and war. “And whereas it will greatly contribute to the speedy settling Our said new Governments, that Our loving Subjects should be informed of Our Paternal Care for the Security of the Liberties and Properties of those who are and shall become Inhabitants thereof…” George III, 1763. The British had just got this land, the Indians lived on in and they knew that. They were trying to stop any conflict before it was to happen. They thought of the Indians as their new subjects. It would all make the settling easier for both the Indians and the colonists. Along with the fact they didn’t want to be seen as unjust rulers, they also wanted to do what seemed fair. I believe in this opinion because the British just wanted to be equal to both the colonists and Indians. They were fair towards the colonists and allowed them many things. “ We have given Power under Our Great Seal to the Governors of Our said Colonies respectively, to erect and constitute, with the Advice of Our said Councils respectively, Courts of Judicature and Publick Justice, within Our said Colonies, for the hearing and determining all Causes, as well Criminal, as Civil, according to Law and Equity, and as near as may be agreeable to the Laws of England.” George III, 1763. They were respectable enough to allow the colonists to set up a form a type of government and law. They wanted the colonists to do well, but they also wanted to be fair to both the colonists and Indians considering it was their land first. The British also wanted to make sure there was as little conflict as possible between the colonists and Indians. “Is it estimated that by late fall of 1763, Pontiac's forces had killed or captured more than six hundred people.” Douglas 1996. The Indians had killed many colonists due to the fact that they were on their land.
