Did Hinduism influence Sikhism?
Sikhism and Hinduism are two religions with many similarities and also many differences. Historically there have been arguments that the religions are very different while others argue that they are very similar. The huge population of Hinduism influenced the new religion Sikhism.
There are many similarities in the two religions. Sikhism and Hinduism are both from the Indian sub-continent. Sikhism was created in Punjab which is in northern India. Hindus pray in a temple, also known as a Mandir while Sikhs pray in a Gurdwara, but Sikhs can pray anywhere such as their house to the streets. This is known as personal worship. Some similarities are both religions have daily prayers and practice yoga. The biggest difference is that Sikhism believes in one god which is known as monotheism and Hinduism believe in many gods which is known as polytheism. Sikhs do not believe in rituals while Hindus teach about rituals in school. Sikhism rejects polytheism and accepts monotheism whereas Sikhism starts with one god and worships one god. Hinduism starts with many gods and occasionally gives glimpses of one god. Sikhism does not recognize any classes while Hinduism does. Sikhism was created in Punjab in 1469 while Hinduism can be traced all the way back to 10,000 B.C. The two religions believe in different scriptures . For example, Sikhs believe the scripture of Shri Guru while Hindus believe in the scripture of the Vedas. Both religions have many holidays also called festivals. Hinduism has holidays dedicated to certain gods like one dedicated to Ganesha while Sikhism has these holidays to honor certain dates for example to honor a battle that
