In the book, three beloved people of Junior died either of alcohol or something else. It is very common in the rez because Junior always mention that somebody is drinking or drunk in the book. It doesn't show much of people getting sick but, many things on rez happens. In the book, Junior says, “I mean, the thing is, plenty of Indians have died because they were drunk.” This is depressing on the rez not for Junior because lucky for him his grandmother didn't die of drinking her whole life. Junior loved his grandmother so much because she was different than the Indians on the rez and had a mind of her own. Now Junior will feel lonelier than he ever felt without his grandma.
