In many sports articles, sportswriters typically portray athletes as flawless individuals, who live the life many of us dream to achieve. Especially the talented adolescents, with their high paying salaries, magazine cover bodies, and public support, which are stressed by the sportswriters truly portrays that athletes have it all. In addition, these positive qualities written about athletes’ drags the reader into further favoring them, like a child reading about his or her favorite superheros who never fail, the air brushed illustration of athlete’s life keeps his or her fan’s attention, while gaining new ones as well. Although these qualities of an athlete can be eye catching, and adoring for the public, sports writers should expose the other side of the athlete’s life too. Since athletes are already celebrated for their talent, exposing the truth of an athlete’s life would bring in common ground with his or her fans.…
Shimmering lights lit up the crowded streets of New York City like the stars of the night sky; they made up for the fact that you couldn’t see the real ones. My feet felt like concrete blocks attached to my legs as I walked, I guess you could call it, through numerous groups of locals and tourists, all I’m sure who could tell easily that I had quite an edge. They didn’t know why, and frankly neither did I. All I knew was that I wanted to be by her side. I had first encountered Mabel one random night when I stumbled upon the 42 Club after leaving work, grimy and dirty from fixing up snobby, rich guys' cars all day and hating my life.…
Baseball during this time period was a newer addition to the American culture. It became called “America’s Pastime,” the game itself was played by everyone, young and old. It was a shock to the American society to find that eight of the 1919 Black Sox players were suspects of accepting money from gamblers to throw the World Series away. It is considered today as one of the biggest scandals in Major League Baseball history, along with the Pete Rose cheating scandal. As for the trial, some parts were fair, but they were treated to harshly at the time being.…
The Civil War had a huge impact on the game of baseball and how it evolved. The background of baseball is a key part of how it is played now and how different it is. Baseball during the Civil War was a thing. The Union and Confederate soldiers each played as well. The game of baseball is completely different now from how it was when it first started from rules and regulations to who they let play.…
The setting of this story is probably during the early 21st century because Tate’s family owns several computers which before the 21st century were very expensive and not well developed. Tate as we already know lives in Spokane, Washington home to one of the most “biggest, deepest, craziest skate bowl” (5) he believes. The local skate park created a common interest for the children of Spokane. Tate describes his brother as being able to “skate it like he was born on the flip side of the deck” (5). Not only does the skate park have an effect on the teens of Spokane, but also has an effect on one’s character.…

“Baseball was, is, and always will be to me the best game in the world.” - Babe Ruth My favorite place to be is a baseball field. I am most comfortable when I am playing baseball. A Move to the South The loud noises of car screeching to a stop, train horn blaring, or police sirens flaring. The typical big city noises that everywhere gets woken up to at night was about to come to an end. North is very different from the South, so trying to adapt would be harder than I ever imagine. It was the summer after 2nd grade, so I was 8 years old.…
Being in New York City itself was all too surreal, like a dream come true. Buildings raced each other in a quest to touch the soft blue sky and people littered the streets and sidewalks. Life there was upbeat and fast-paced and everyone and everything was moving, but then you crossed into Central Park. Crossing the sidewalk into the large park was like crossing the border into another world.…
The play “A Raisin In the Sun” and the poem “Harlem” both concentrate on the attainment of the forever promised “American Dreams” (higher education, prosperity, equality, freedom to come and go as you desire and to be whoever and whatever you want). These aspirations were and still are the hopes and goals society offers to all of us, unfortunately, many African-Americans rarely achieved and experienced them. Both writings depict the unfair treatment of African-Americans during the 1960’s with each implying how, discrimination and segregation, made achieving these dreams virtually insurmountable for most of the black population. The main difference between the play and the poem are the endings. The poem ends with a reference to the total destruction…
