In that hot Summer heat, I could not help but feel the need to find sanctuary in the local café. The blistering heat had hit an all-time high of 100 degrees. Once I walked into the family ran café I could feel the laid back atmosphere that had been exuded from the store. The lights were dimmed, so it would ensure an easy adjustment on one’s eyes after walking in the blinding suns beams. I took a seat at one of closest tables to the barista the table was made of a rich dark mahogany and the seat was a comforting fit on one’s backside. The aroma was as if I was taken to another universe, the coffee scent allured me straight into the line. The café itself gave off a homey like feeling. The feeling made you feel welcomed. In contrast, the sound of the soft jazz piano consistently playing in the background. Each respective sound trying to fight for the spotlight of which is more attention grabbing. The loud mechanical crunch of the beans over and over or the light, but also calming piano taking charge? Though, neither compliments the other over time they both blend so well as if it were a well-oiled machine.
The feeling that released from my hand to the cup was a heat that I was not expecting to encounter. Given the circumstances I can understand why what I did was not the smartest thing seeing as how I just received my piping hot cup. Not only was grabbing it immediately unforgiving my fingers had turned numb all the way to the palm. Within 5 minutes of allowing the cup to rest I could finally grasp it with ease. In conclusion, the local café displays the concept of all 5 senses being used in every little aspect that goes on in the environment. Whether it is unexpected or is not you will definitely be able to use all 5

The pleasing scent of freshly ground coffee wafted through the apartment, infiltrating Tom’s dream with its aromatic fragrance. Opening his eyes, he found himself alone on the sofa, the blanket he’d had draped around his shoulders now neatly tucked around his boxer-clad body. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes, and stifling a yawn, he threw back the blanket and looked around his apartment. “Hey, sleepyhead.” Booker stood leaning against the kitchen counter, a cup of coffee in his hand.…

As I walked down the hallway of the Memorial Union, I search for the staircase that will bring me to my haven for the next hour and a half. After I expressed worry to my friend that I would have nowhere to go during my long class breaks, she told me that Sparky’s Den is where she goes to hang out between classes. As I descended down the gray staircase, I pictured what the room would look like; with a name like Sparky’s Den, I saw a crowded room with dark brown wooden paneling on the walls, dim lighting, red, plush booths lining the walls, and gives off a sports bar atmosphere; you can imagine my surprise when I reached the bottom of the stairs and looked into a bland, white room with light brown finishes lining the walls with thirty-or-so tables and booths, and two long couches. As I walked through the opening in the room, I was hit with a cool blast of air. While the Memorial Union was cool, it was no match to the artic breeze of Sparky’s Den; as the cold air hit me, goosebumps rose all over my body.…

The same path that was once created with the type of gravel that crunches and crackles like pop rocks in water. Every dreadful step lead us out of familiarity, inching into an unfamiliar landscape.…
