Equipment: Salicylic acid 3.00g, 6 cm3 acetic anhydride, buncher funnel, timer,250 cm3 flaskProcedure: In order to synthesis aspirin the following procedure needs to be carried out.
Firstly to being you would have to weigh 3.00g of salicylic acid and move it into a 250 cm3 flask that contains no moisture at all. You would then add 6 cm3 of acetic anhydride as well as 5 to 8 drops of 85% phosphoric acid to a flask. You would then need to gently mix the solution which is in the flask by swirling it. Get warm water and place it in the beaker which would take 15 minutes.
You would need to add 20 drops of cold water drop wise into the solution of warm water which would eliminate excess acetic anhydride. Adding 20 cm3 of water …show more content…
If you did not repeat the experiment several times for example you will not be able to notice if yourresults are consistant therefore not providing you with an idea of how accurate you are.
If you do not label the solutions correctly which is a little rare you could mix up the solutions which could provide you with a totally incorrect result.
This shows how there are many errors present which means accuracy may be hard to achieve but since there are more precise techniques this makes titration more accurate in comparison to thin layer chromatography.
During the experiment, the slightest mistake may result in inaccurate data. Here are some errors that are able to affect your results and experiment. I accurately diluted 0.1 M sodium hydroxide NaOH from the given 1 M sodium hydroxide. I am able to see this due to the final calculations and the volumes read off the burette, however there are error possibilities and these are the
