Have you ever had an embarrassing acne breakout? It is most likely that you have, because eight out of ten people have experienced a breakout in their lifetime ("Why"). If such a situation occurs trying to pop the acne is not the best way to get rid of it, and would likely cause scarring. Instead, see a dermatologist. Dermatologists help treat people with conditions of the skin, hair, and nails ("About Dermatology"). Helping people feel good about their appearance and health is something that I would like to do for my career, thus I chose to research dermatology.
Becoming a dermatologist is no easy task, but Durant High School offers Health Occupational Students of America (HOSA) and health science classes which may make people’s goals of getting into a medical profession easier to achieve by exposing the student to health professions while in high school. Outside of high school is when the reality of becoming a dermatologist is more challenging. To become a dermatologist one must attend medical school, and obtain a Medical Doctorate. All of college from the baccalaureate degree to the medical degree is expensive, and one must be very intelligent to complete it; which is a limiting factor. Getting into and completing medical school isn’t an easy task to accomplish but once the student graduates and gets all their certification, getting a job is the easy part ("DERMATOLOGISTS."). Dermatologists have many openings throughout the entire United States. Here in Oklahoma there are around two-hundred job openings, which is a very high number. The number of dermatologists will always grow with population growth. Dermatologists have a few options for where they could work. Dermatologists can work in a hospital. Another option is working and managing an independent clinic. Finally another option is a federal or state agency. Personally I would like to run my own clinic so that I could have more control over my schedule. Both working at hospital or at a private clinic have their pros and cons. If a dermatologist chooses to manage their own clinic, then for the most part their work schedule revolves around their life. Dermatologists that work in hospitals do not have as much control over their schedule but unlike other doctors in the medical field they normally don’t get called in when they are not scheduled to work. To advance in the profession means that one needs experience. Once the dermatologist gets their credibility built up they would get paid more ("DERMATOLOGISTS."). Dermatologists have many job satisfactions, such as high pay, the lack of stress and having the chance to help people. Today it seems like many people get stressed about their job. I do not want to end up stressing about career whenever I have one. According to Shmoop dermatology is not very stressful. The annual salary of a dermatologist is about two-hundred thousand ("Shmoop."). Another plus of being a dermatologist means there is
