William Shakespeare “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” proves that, teenagers who don’t get enough sleep are prone to be depressed. Romeo and Juliet fall in a forbidden love; in effect, the story ends in both of their deaths due to their family fued. Due to research teenage brains view reward over risk and are more likely to become depressed with a lack of sleep. Teens that do not get enough sleep are more likely to become depressed or anxious. Researchers found that teenagers becomes depressed due a lack of sleep. For instance, in “Teenagers Who Don’t Get Enough Sleep at Higher Risk for Mental Health Problems”, explains to the audience, ”researchers determined that each hour of lost sleep was associated with a 38 percent increase in the odds of feeling sad and hopeless.” The article describes that every certain amount of lost sleep teens get a greater chance of mental illness. The article Romeo and Juliet states, ”And private in his chamber pens himself, Shuts up his windows, locks fair daylight out, And makes himself an artificial light.” This section of the passage describes that Romeo locks himself in his room and sleeps; this causes most of the depression that he gets. Romeo just like many teens in the world miss a lot of sleep due to staying up late and it can provoke mental illnesses. Accordingly, teens around the world lose too much sleep making them more likely to be depressed such as in Romeos case. Only about 3 percent of surveyed students got the needed amount of sleep according to the article. Losing an hour of sleep gives teens “a 42 percent increase in considering suicide”. In Romeo and Juliet Romeo commits suicide, as stated, “Thy drugs are quick.
