She then used paper towels to pat her hands down and then used them to mop up the remaining water around the sink. The senior dental hygiene student then returned to her cubicle and put on her Personal Protective Equipment which included her isolation gown, bonnet, facemask, and safety glasses. She again returned to the sink to rewash her hands and then put on her rubber cleaning gloves. Afterwards, she started by cleaning out her suction lines for about two minutes, and then she checked her water bottle determining she had enough for at least one patient. The senior dental hygiene student wiped down all the metal surfaces using a DisCide wipe and any equipment in her tackle box that she would be using on her patient such as the blood pressure cuff, thermometer, clipboard, and ink pen. She then used the antibacterial soap to clean the upholstery and the view box for the x-rays. When she finish disinfecting the unit she returned to the sink and washed her rubber cleaning gloves for three time. Afterwards, she removed she rubber cleaning gloves and place them on a paper towel to store them in the bottom of the drawer in the mobile cart. She began to go over the medical history that the patient had previously filled out. I noticed that when she was asking the patient for sensitive information such as birth control she made it clear that they ask everyone these questions and it would be kept confidently. She asked the patient these question in a confident and respectful manner. The senior student also highlighted any questions the patient answered “yes” to and inquired for further information. The records serve as a foundation for the evaluation process (Wilkins, 2013 p.101). The senior student then took the patient’s vitals and determined that all signs where normal and she could proceed with treatment. She then recorded it in EagleSoft and in the hand written progress notes. After the faculty was called over and deemed it alright to precede, she started the patient’s treatment. When given the pre-rinse the patient asked why she needed, the dental student calmly explained that it was for her benefit to cut down on the already present bacteria in her mouth. She then excused herself and rewashed her hands. After putting on her gloves she used the probe to start periodontal charting. Every time she need to switch from the patient’s mouth to the computer she put on her over gloves so as not to containment the laptop. Even when one of the over gloves drop to the floor she did not pick it up
