Problem: What is the effect of density on the viscosity of a substance?
Hypothesis: Density will affect the viscosity of a liquid. The order of the liquids from most dense to least dense is: syrup, detergent, water, oil
Background: Density and viscosity are closey related in which they both affect one and other. Denisty has many factors like weight, mass, and volume. To work cohesivly there are different things we must pay attention to. Density is how closley packed the particles in a substance are while viscosity is the resistance that a fluid has to flowing and movement. Viscosity is due to the movement of particles. The particle theory is a great tool to help us understand how viscosity works. The reason a fluid can vary in viscosity is because the greater the forces of attraction between the particles, the stronger the resistance of the particles flowing past each other will be. These terms are both related because if the fluid is very dense it will be viscous however if the fluid is thin it will be less viscous because the amount of force between the particles varies in the density of the fluid. Flow rate also plays a part in viscosity as it is how fast something flows and for things to work well the flow rate is a thing to keep your eye on. Viscosity is also an important thing is a way that you …show more content…
If brake fluid was not at the right viscosity it would not work therefore your mechanical machine you are operating will malfunction and not come to a stop properly causing a serious safety hazard. It is also used in many cosmetic feautures. Cosmetic companies depend on viscosity to sell there product to full use. This because putting on lotion that is the consistancy of water is not a best seller. Without correct viscosity nobody would want to be lotions, make-up, sunscreen and much more. As you can tell viscosity is a vital part to comapnies and use and used all the
