Juror’s Statement Adnan Syed has been put on trial for the murder of Hae Min Lee. Not only has he been charged with life in a high security prison, but also has maintained his innocence for his whole trial and sentencing. Even though Jay’s testimony had been changed slightly over time, the story itself is consistent. Adnan killed Hae by strangulation and Jay helped Adnan bury her body in Leakin Park. Even though I state that Adnan is not innocent, he should not have been convicted with the evidence presented at trial.…
"A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to preserve and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. " This quote is by Christopher Reeve and it connects to the novel our Twisted Hero because of the main character and protagonist Han going against the antagonist Om. First off, Han tries to stand up for himself and kind of also the students even if it doesn't end up the way he thinks it will. This has to do with the incident of Han trying to let the tech her know about all of Om's misdeeds because the students are too scared to tell him themselves. What Han does is tell the teacher for the students to say everything when Om isn't in the room so they can speak up without being scared but instead they all end up writing bad stuff about Han rather than about Om.…
Pop culture 's mythology theory, discovered by a Frenchman named Roland Barthes, appears in many forms of media today. An example of this would be The Legend of Zelda, in which Link must rescue the land of Hyrule similar to how many Greek heroes had to save the world. People use mythology theory every day and don 't even realize it. From naming their dog Zeus after the Greek god of lightning to watching the anime Hetalia to understand history and cultures better. One movie that uses this theory is the 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou? directed by Joel and Ethan Coen.…

There is declining participation in local elections because of many reasons such as, voter apathy, a dislike of the candidates, work conflicts, the feeling that their vote doesn’t count, and a lack of knowledge about the candidates. In “Voter Turnout Plummeting in Local Elections” Aaron Weinschenk suggests the reason for lower voter turnout in local elections is due to “the negativity surrounding government in general is seeping into local government” and “polluting politics at all levels” (para. 4). According to Governing State and Localities “For municipal elections, turnout rates are generally less than 20 percent” (121). That means that only about one-fifth of the local population is casting a vote.…
The quote ”A good nationalism has to depend on a principle of the common people, on the myths of a struggling commonality”express the fact that a nation is built on the coming together of common citizens as well as establishing a feeling of struggling. This feeling creates an environment where our society feels it must work hard to keep the nation together. Andrew O’Hagen has taken the reality of different nations in our world and has put them into one sentence. Andrew O'Hagen's view is one of that may be controversial due to the fact that it completely embraces the ideological factor of nationalism where a nation is defined under specific rules and not defined by the diversity of the citizens. A nation under his perspective may be considered more of an ethnic nation which is a nation where there is one common culture, race and religion compared to a civic nation where there a combination of cultures, races and religions.…

Looking at the article Kwan, goes into depth about the invisible knapsack concept and connects that with the body privilege and body consciousness. Witnessing body privilege plays a strong impact on women who consider themselves overweight. This creates the body consciousness to develop. Women and men both see how their own bodies are not being considered when things are being built. “..whereas thin or ‘normal’ sized individuals take things such as chairs, desks, and public bathrooms for granted, women experience these objects as triggers to body consciousness and as a form of patrolling” (Kwan, 246).…

‘’Live Up To Your Name, Dr. Heo’’ by Kim Eun-hee ‘’Live Up To Your Name, Dr. Heo’’ is just the first tv drama that Kim Eun-hee pens after she co-written the award-winning ‘’The Queen's Classroom’’. This odd genre combination is partially the main reason that makes this drama compelling to watch. The story of ‘’Live Up To Your Name, Dr. Heo’’ revolves around Heo Im…

Emily Dickinson is well known for her unusual poems, however during her life she wasn’t famous till after she passed away when her family started to find 1000’s of her poems stuff in tiny spaces all around the house. Dickinson’s writing wasn’t well understood during her time, she had a uniqueness that was ahead of her time; she had an amazing use of symbols, capitalism, themes and tones in her writing which make reading her poems so intriguing. While growing up she wasn’t the average women, she had her own thoughts and beliefs which is something I love about her which brings me to one of my favorite poems by her: “I’m Nobody! Who are you?” I 'm Nobody!…
