The attitude of the quote relates to my own life and experiences due to the fact that the whole purpose of our Department of Education is to educate every generation for the better future of the whole country. The school not only provides the knowledge we need later on, but also gives us the opportunity to gain experiences from cooperating with each other that shapes our unique personality. These different traits we gain in school made it possible for us to make contributions in different fields in the future society. Comparing school to the society, they're similar in a way because both needs self commitment and motivation to reach the standard you set for yourself. It's the concept that if you work hard enough, you'll have equal opportunity and freedom just like everyone else and you'll be able to achieve any goals. This relates to my own definition of being an American because in America, there's no limitations on how hardworking a person is, the country gives people the freedom to achieve anything using their own hands. Although I certainly find David Koch’s quote reasonable, others might not due to their own perspectives such as disapproving the idea of American dream. Referring back to quote one said by Antonio H. Hernandez, he stated “People say this a land of opportunity, but a lot of the time there are no opportunities, no jobs. And if you’re an immigrant you don’t get paid as much, and if you go to the hospital sometimes they won’t take care of you. An American with papers has more opportunities than an American without.” This shows how an “outsider” expresses his experiences of being treated unequally as a noncitizen.
