The Life of David Friend

David Friend was born in the spring of 1842. Life was simple growing on the farm along with his four siblings. In the morning he would do his chores and then his mom would homeschool him and his siblings. He married his childhood friend Mary at age 18. They inherited the family farm and started their family right away. Then came April 12, 1861, the day the Civil War started and separated America.

.Everyday they waited for him to be drafted, until finally one day in 1862, the news came. He left Mary at home with their newborn. David was drafted at twenty and would serve for three years. David went to training and didn’t fight till 1862 in the Battle of Fredericksburg, along with Joshua Chamberlain. He hurt his leg
