For example, in my current role as a Certified Outpatient Diabetes Educator, the blood sugar logs and A1C values are required data for further decision-making. Once data accumulated, it is imperative to proceed with the interpretation of available numbers leading to gathering "Information" and its organization. However, it is crucial to draw an accurate conclusion from the given data, especially when as Matney, Brewster, Sward, Cloyes and Staggers (2011) explain that the information reflects meaningful data and not just raw facts. So, taking into consideration my nursing position, the hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia are detrimental values defining much more than just a low or high blood glucose. For instance, poor glycemic control may be an evidence of inefficient understanding of diet, especially the identification of carbohydrates and maintaining a properly balanced meal. Moreover, it may expose the individual's eating habits, medication management, compliance with physical activity, understanding and recognition of hypoglycemia as well as proper treatment of emergent low blood sugars. As the information gathering process comes to completion, the next important question should be "how" and "why" which is answered by …show more content…
However, first, it is imperative to comprehend the last component of the DIKW acronym which is " Wisdom " described briefly as the implementation of knowledge acquired through life experience and learning (Matney, Avant, & Staggers, 2016). On the other hand, judgment is one of the characteristics defining a concept of wisdom among others like decisiveness, application, reflection and learning. After 20 years of practice as a nurse, I can safely assert that clinical judgment may have either positive or negative connotation. As I reflect on my ER experience where having a right clinical judgment is an absolute necessity to treat critical cases I could, unfortunately, recall a few instances of lacking critical thinking skills leading to poor decision making. Researchers have posed five main themes influencing clinical decisions, such as "thoughtful behavior, professional ethics, used of evidence-based care, a context of a learning environment and individual and professional characteristics of clinical teachers" (Pouralizadeh, Khankeh, Ebad, & Dalvandi, 2017). Subsequently, to become proficient in those areas one must apply knowledge, and that could be developed over time with adequate and various training whereas wisdom is a benefit of long-standing practice and depends on professional maturity. Therefore, wisdom informatics represent one's ability to apply knowledge, life experience,
