Rockhampton Girls Grammar is an extremely culturally diverse school with cultures from the Torres Strait to England and Poland. With all of the different cultures that the school presents, the students and teacher have the opportunity to learn and explore interesting features and ideas of each culture right from the people that know then best. Exploring different cultures have several different aspects that could be discovered, however, the food is one of the most shared parts of each of our cultures. To comply with the British theme, I have chosen to make pumpkin loaf. The health value of this loaf wasn’t overly great however, there are elements of value in there such as the 650g of pumpkin. There was also a lot of brown sugar and butter. Pumpkin loaf is only a ‘sometimes’ food that could be eaten at a morning tea or as a snack.
When making the pumpkin loaf, I used techniques such as folding, cubing, boiling and beating. The pumpkin was cut into small cubes and placed on a microwave safe plate with a small amount water on the plate. It was then covered with cling wrap and put in the microwave for 3-4 minutes. This, however, didn’t cook the pumpkin all the way through so it was then placed in a glass bowl, covered with water and then cooked for another 4 minutes till they were tender. The pumpkin was placed in the food processer and then folded into the butter, sugar and eggs mixture. The flour was sifted over the top and then folded into the pumpkin batter. It was placed in the oven at 1800 for 50 minutes until its

They are a popular British dish that are enjoyed by many in England and even Australia. Wholemeal bread, apples, rhubarb and hazelnuts are all health components of the snacks. Unfortunately, there is a fair amount of sugar that is used that may contradict the fruit content. However, it is still considered a healthy dish.
When making the charlottes, I found that it was easier to remove the crust before I rolled it not after. Also, if the bread had been heated up prior to rolling it, it was easier to flatten to the correct size. The fruit was cooking while I prepared the bread and the muffin trays so that I could save time. I used techniques such as arranging of awkward shapes, cutting, slicing, simmering and blending.

Next time, I would use larger, deeper muffin trays so that the bread would fit more evenly and better. I would also work out how exactly to put the bread slices in the muffin trays as most of mine turned out different as I couldn’t quite find the right way to put them in. The charlottes weren’t browning on top enough so I had to turn the temperature up or it could have been put under the grill for a short

I did find the pumpkins work well in pumpkin soup (something I've eaten a lot of lately) but I still needed something different. I recently found it: pumpkin cheesecake. I tried many recipes and finally came up with one all my own that I love. One warning: if you bake the pumpkin cheesecake without a water bath it will likely crack on the top. I'm ok with this; I think it adds to the rustic, homemade look.…

In the article “We Are What We Eat: We Are a Nation of Immigrants!” by David Rosengarten, he discusses the distinct influences and development of cuisine in the United States. Over many years, food has changed the national diet in America. Food has changed because of the immigrants coming to America in the past. Americans have adopted and adapted these different cuisines and it “has sparked a richness and diversity in the fare on America’s dinner tables and in its restaurants” (Rosengarten 216).…

Last November, a week before Thanksgiving, I was listening to the morning radio talk show The Woody Show and the hosts were talking about how excited they were for the Thanksgiving feast. They all went around and shared what was their perfect meal for that day. It ranged from fried turkey, to stuffing, cornbread, green bean casserole, and towards the end the hosts argued about cranberry sauce. However, they all agreed that pumpkin pie was essential to the perfect meal. I found it very interesting that while they argued about the way the meal was executed, they all agreed on the basic components to the meal-I didn’t.…

Although Eric Schlosser’s book was published in 2001 there is no argument that great tasting fries are only growing in popularity across the globe. Potatoes are notoriously easy to grow and can be grown almost anywhere with just a sack, some seed potatoes, and some good soil. There are hundreds of ways potatoes can be prepared with fries being one of them. J.R. Simplot was a brilliant man that saw potential in farming potatoes, even before becoming a farmer he made good money working nine to ten hours a day for 30 cents an hour, buying scrips1 from teachers for 50 cents on the dollar and then selling them to banks for 90 cents. The excerpt begins in 1909 and ends in present day America.…

If we were to make the biscuits again, we would have preheated the oven earlier. Since we forgot to preheat the oven at the start, our biscuits took longer to cook. In addition, we would have added more brown sugar because our biscuits were a bit too hard and weren’t sweet enough. Furthermore, we would have turned the oven temperature lower because our biscuits were a little burnt when we took them out of the oven and not the desirable golden…
