The nurse must collect information necessary before taking care of a patient regarding the cultural back ground patient comes from. “Leininger defined a cultural assessment as a systematic appraisal or examination of individuals, groups, and communities as to their cultural beliefs, values and practices to determine explicit needs and intervention practices within the context of the people being served. The goal of a cultural assessment is to obtain accurate information from the patient that will allow the nurse to formulate a mutually acceptable and culturally relevant treatment plan for each patient problem” (Bacote, 2011, para. 5). There are certain barriers in providing safe patient care which includes communication, space, social organization, time, environmental control and biological variation according to Ardoin and Wilson. Nurses must find resources to overcome these barriers to provide effective patient care. Every institution is different and have their own ways of providing culturally competent care. As cultural diversity is increasing in the country institutions value diversity and make sure they support there culturally diverse staff as this in turn this affects the patient satisfaction scores. In this community there are no proper sanitation and waste disposal facilities needed for the residents. Parking and safety signs are not maintained with safety measures. A major problem noticed in the community was absence of closed drainage system. The land looks very dry with lack of irrigation facilities. Most of the reasons causing health issues in these residents were they live near to construction sites. No advanced health facilities are available for the residents in the community as well. Lack of utilization of modern technology is evidenced throughout the video in the neighborhood (Windshield Survey Neighborhood #1, n.d).Health education plays a vital role and it is critical to educate the residents regarding safety, drainage and sanitation. Hospitals are a health care service which is essential to manage any health issues of the residents. Patient education and teaching on a community level is very important to maintain a healthy environment.
