The cucumber (Cucurbitaceae) was found in India and started to be cultivated over 3,000 years ago, it was spread through out India, Ancient Greece, Rome, Europe, New World and China. It then became the fourth most cultivated vegetable in the world. Cucumbers were very popular for a certain period of time until they were treated as bringers of disease. Christopher Columbus brought cucumbers to Haiti in 1494, where they were grown and distributed in the new world. In the 18th century cucumbers suddenly stopped being so popular when people started reporting that cucumbers and other vegetables were the cause for several diseases because it was not cooked and represented a big health risk. Some advantages that cucumbers brought to the world if consumed are that they reduce the risk of cancer, fight inflammation, freshen the breath, manage stress, support digestive health, maintain a healthy weight, support heart health and also protects the brain. Cucumbers have an anti-inflammatory response that has an important role in brain health. It improves the memory and protects the nerve cells from age weakening, ingredients in the cucumber have been found to prevent memory loss tested in mice with Alzheimer’s disease. They also reduce the risk of cancer, cucumbers contain lignans that help lower the risk of breast, uterine, ovarian, and prostate cancer. According to the George Mateljan Foundation, cucumbers also have anti-cancer properties. One last of the many advantages that cucumbers can provide is it freshens breath. Placing a cucumber slice on the roof of the mouth gets rid of mouth odor caused by bacteria, eating cucumbers releases excess heat in the stomach which is said to be the primary cause of bad …show more content…
Consuming cucumbers gives the skin a inner glow and luminous on the outside. Even though the cucumber is small, it has became a big part of everyday use; such as making a cooling summer bath, soothe puffy eyes, skin toner, facial mask, skin freshener, conditioning chlorine damaged hair, and so on. A lot of these uses do make a big difference in peoples lives and can not go without having it in their daily routine. People may ask themselves “why should I eat cucumbers?”, well here are some reasons why. Cucumbers fights heat outside the body and inside the body, it relieves the body from heart burn and also if sunburn rubbing a cucumber in the area will soothe the burn. They also replenish vitamins that you need daily. Since the cucumber has so many vitamins, it is very healthy to eat and gives energy. Also cucumbers eliminate toxins, it takes away waste from the body, if eaten correctly it is knowns to dissolve kidney
