In the play “Antigone” by Sophocles, Creon is one of the main character with a hamartia or fatal flaw. Sophocles portrays Creon as a tragic hero by the characteristics shown in the play as it develops. Creon is the type of person who will not listen to anyone, even if the other is right. His choices and decisions end up deciding the fates of both his son and wife Haemon, Eurydice and niece, Antigone. He is stubborn and his pride is so great, he can not bring himself to acknowledge that he could ever be wrong. Creon is also a king and rules a country, these flaws hold him back from ruling his country with justice. Pride is Creon’s fatal flaw.
