The sclera is the outermost layer of the eye which is the white part of the eye, which supports and protects and also serves as attachment site for the eye muscles. There are six muscles that inert in the sclera for eye movement and it also contains small blood vessels and nerves making it the most sensitive part of the body. The anterior part of the uvea is the pigmented iris (color of the eye) in the center of the iris is the pupil.
Posterior of the iris is the lens, which focuses light. The iris the pupillary sphincter muscles and pupillary dilator muscles change the diameter of the pupil to regulate the amount of light entering the lens. Around the lens the uvea is the wedged-shaped enlarged ciliary body where the iris attaches. In the ciliary body muscle that adjusts the shape of the lens for near or far …show more content…
A dissection pan was used to hold the eye in and tongs were used to take the eye out of the bucket where they were contained. Safety glasses were used to protect eyes and gloves were used to protect hands from potential liquids. A scalpel was used to make an incision about 0.6 cm back from the cornea. Scissors were used to cut around the adipose tissue, extraocular muscles, and to separate various parts of the eye. The various structures and layers were noted and compared to that of a human’s eye. Pictures were taken at each stage of the dissection and labeled.
Overall when the anatomy of a cow’s eye is compared to that of a human’s eye they are similar in structure and function. While doing the dissection first thing that can be seen is the adipose tissue that surrounds the eye which also is the same for a human’s eye. The relative size of the cow’s eye is larger than that of a human’s. All of the cow’s irises were brown, whereas a human’s comes in many colors. Also, a cow’s pupil is oval, while the human’s pupil is round. There were less extraocular muscles surrounding the cow eye which makes the eye able to only move left, right, up, and,
