As human civilization advanced, our communication methods also evolved, from basic primal actions and sounds to whole sets of languages that allow people to express increasingly complex ideas. Our reliance on the information that we exchange with others makes honest and trustworthy communication also a necessary component to a proper society. Before reading Unwind, I was indifferent about abortion. I knew abortion was wrong, but it is so common in today’s society that I’ve become numb to the idea. I’ve heard every excuse for why abortion is “Okay” and I thought people are going to do what they want to do. This thought never bothered me because I’ve never been in the position that many people are in when they have to make that choice. While I was reading Unwind, I realized how awful and cruel it is to unwind teenagers who actually have a way to say no and escape the corrupt system.…

Another major cause of corruption within the confines of the prison walls is the low level of education obtained by the guards, with many of them only having completed high school (Brasswell, McCarthy, and McCarthy, 2008). Philliber (1987), however, says there is an opposing correlation between the level of education and the level of job satisfaction. This may be a result of the low-pay involved in corrections; it is presumable that the higher the educational level one obtains, there will be a higher expectation of pay. Schmalleger’s (2009) studies, though, indicate that higher levels of education lead to a decrease in the likelihood of criminal acts. This is probably due to the issue having been addressed somewhat by legislatures inasmuch…

Judicial corruption in the eyes of its innocent victims, is wrongdoing by someone in power that can be life changing. People can be fined unfair fees or watch someone who stole from them go free. However, for the judges getting the extra cash or making a decision because of personal bias, a case in which corruption occurs can be part of a normal day, and no one would ever know. Corruption is much more oblivious in other countries around the world. For example, in Azerbaijan, a prisoner can be released quickly, by a simple threat or a luxurious offer without doubt or question from anyone around.…
