9 Interesting Facts about Corgis
Corgis are short, and sometimes even stout. What pops up in your head immediately when someone mentions “Corgi” would most likely be: big ears, long body, short legs and no tail. Cardigans themselves go back 3,000 years and are the first herding dogs recorded. When you say Corgi, though, you're actually saying “Dwarf Dog” because “cor” and “gi” are root words. What do Do the root words mean though?
1. The Shocking History of the Corgi.
Many people have probably seen corgis waddle around a few times, but did they know that they've been around since the tenth century? Wales is where the corgi originated. There are actually two breeds of the same breed the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, and the Cardigan Welsh corgi. While they are both corgis, they each have distinct physical features. Ever since her eighteenth birthday when she got her first corgi, she fell in love with them. Susan, the name of the first corgi, was the seed to starting many new generations of corgis in the royal family. How many? Ten generations! Corgis have been with the royal family for over seven the years now, showing great pride of England.
6. The More Popular Corgi, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
Small, but mighty! By 1998, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi had become the 37th most popular breed of dog in the United States. Compared to the Cardigan, there are many minor differences. Differences in the appearance such as: pointier yet smaller ears, shorter to the ground, when the tail is not docked they have a shorter tail, and weigh less. They stand at around 10-12 inches from the ground. Although they are both corgis, the Pembroke is more positive, physically stronger, and smarter!
