Personal Narrative: Concussion Round One

Concussion Round One Picture being a young innocent child arriving home from daycare, you have been looking forward to riding the bright pink bike that has been locked up in the shed all winter. However, you forgot to put on your helmet before taking off, little did you know that it would result in a severe concussion. Forgetting to wear a helmet while riding a bike can result in a concussion, skull fracture, a trip to the hospital which will result in life long problem such as headaches and chronic migraines. Bicycle, or any kind of helmets reduce the risk of head and brain injuries in the event of a crash. It all started on a spring evening around four o’clock, I was playing with my friends at The Little School House day care in Mattoon, while I waited anxiously for my dad to come pick me up. Since I chose to not wear a helmet on that spring day, I suffered a severe head injury, which would effect the reset of my life. After visiting the ER, multiple check up visits, and many doctor’s appointments later on in life would end up racking up the medical bills. In result of my concussion I had to visit the ER, which was one expensive bill in itself. Along with the ER visit I had to have multiple follow ups with my doctor; each visit costs me. Years later I started to go back to visit the doctor to try and find my answers those visits just added onto the medical bills. However, once I was put on the medicine that would eventually help my migraines, the price of the medicine would not help my bank account. Throughout the time and multiple medical bills, insurance saved me. Emergency Room, and doctor’s visits can be expensive to the everyday person, however I was fortunate enough to have wonderful insurance who would cover over half the
